  9. Minutes of the Source Demand Routing Protocol BOF (SDRP)
  10.  
  11. At the SDRP BOf we started out by introducing the Charter and then spent
  12. most of the rest of the time discussing tasks and priorities.

  14. Charter

  16. The SDRP Working Group is chartered to specify, standardize and promote
  17. the use of SDRP (Source Demand Routing Protocol) as an interdomain
  18. routing protocol capability in conjunction with IDRP and BGP interdomain
  19. routing protocols.  The purpose of SDRP (pronounced ``esdrip'', to go
  20. with ``eyedrip'', which is how IDRP is pronounced) is to support
  21. source-initiated selection of interdomain routes, to complement the
  22. intermediate node selection provided by BGP/IDRP.

  24. Tasks and Issues

  26.  
  27.    o Packet forwarding and control message format and protocol for IP. A
  28.      draft specification is currently an Internet-Draft.  It is under
  29.      revision and the authors eagerly await more comments on the current
  30.      or future drafts.
  31.  
  32.    o Configuration and Usage.  This is the highest priority after the
  33.      draft specification in order to demonstrate how SDRP can be used to
  34.      achieve concrete objectives.  Work should begin on this document
  35.      immediately.

  37.    o Internal SDRP. Several attendees commented that they would like to
  38.      have SDRP functionality within domains and for that reason we added
  39.      an item, intra-domain, or ``Internal SDRP'' (ISDRP) to the list.
  40.    o Extensions to BGP and IDRP. As mentioned in the Internet-Draft
  41.      there are a few extensions to BGP/IDRP needed to support SDRP.
  42.      These must be detailed and documented.
  43.  
  44.    o MIBs.  As needed for any protocol.
  45.  
  46.    o Deployment.  We will develop both an experimentation and deployment
  47.      plan.
  48.  
  49.    o Information Distribution.  The initial versions of SDRP will use
  50.      only information from IDRP/BGP and configured information as the
  51.      basis for constructing source routes.  We will develop mechanisms
  52.      for distribution/acquisition of information to allow SDRP to
  53.      construct a richer set of routes.
